The Book Thief Playlist. This song has a very reckless and youthful feel to it. I can easily see Rudy and Liesel stealing, running away from home, and causing havoc around town to this song. It feels invincible, full of life, just like Liesel and Rudy when they team up. I also chose this song because it is an unsure love song, like how Liesel and Rudy love each other, but have never really addressed these mutual feelings. I chose this song because I feel like it fits perfectly into the ending scene of the book, where Liesel is the only survivor.
To Sum it Up:
We were assigned a project where we have to relate a character from the book to a song. Here, we have added a few songs that are not necessarily our favorites, but are the ones that we believe best describe each character. As you read each one, please try to imagine stepping into the shoes of each character to further relate their suffering, joy, and actions to each song that we have chosen. From the time that she arrived, we watch the timid and scared Liesel open up to Hans.

Analyzing Characters Through Song
Music for DeLaney and I is a way to express our thoughts without using words and a way to escape the stress of what is going on throughout the world. This year in Honors English, we are reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and we are doing a project where we use songs to analyze the characters. DeLaney and I have made personal connections with the characters and we associate the lyrics of the songs we chose with our attitudes and feelings towards the characters. DeLaney and I had a difficult time encompassing everything that Liesel was into one description of her. She is a broken child who wishes to please everyone. She felt alone and afraid but through the love and support of her new mother and father, and best friends Rudy and Max, she grew and her broken heart was mended. At the beginning, Liesel was very innocent and struggled through school, but after reading more into her character we see her more as a mature young lady who showed immense courage and strength. She came up with a brilliant plan to get hurt so she could go inside her house and tell Hans. For her the Jew in her basement had not been revealed.
Monday, October 29, These characteristics can be analyzed through a corresponding song that relates to them. Although there could be more than one song to describe each character, we choose these songs because we felt they were the best match to the characters. We love Liesel's character and how determined and passionate she can be. At the beginning of the story, Liesel's brother died on the way to meet their new foster parents. Liesel is haunted by the memory of this and had constant nightmares of the death of her brother. She doesn't forget things easily, and it also shows how much she cares for others.
